Former boxing champion Mike Tyson has claimed that he once wanted to f-ight a silverback gorilla in its cage during a private tour around a zoo. During the walk with his former wife Robin Givens at a New York zoo in 1986, Tyson reportedly asked a member of staff to let him go head-to-head with the primate. Tyson, 52, who is known for previously owning a number of exotic pets including three Royal Bengal tigers, revealed that he offered $10,000 to fight the gorilla and told zookeeper that he wanted to ‘smash the silverback’s snotbox.’
The former heavyweight boxer took offense to the animal when he spotted it bul-lying the other gorillas in his cage. He then decided to go in and take down the large primate.
He told The Sun: ‘When we got to the gorilla cage there was one big silverback gorilla there just bul-lying all the other gorillas.
‘They were so powerful but their eyes were like an innocent infant.’I offered the attendant $10000 to open the cage and let smash that silverback’s snotbox! He declined.’
The boxer has won gold medals at the 1981 and 1982 Junior Olympics before going on to win his first title f-ight in 1986 against Trevor Berbick for the World Boxing Council (WBC).
However, in 1992 his reputation was covered in controversy after he was found guilty by an Indianapolis jury for the r-ape of a Miss Black America contestant.
The boxer’s love for exotic creatures has been well documented over the years. Alongside his lifelong love of pigeons, he has also owned three Bengal tigers which reportedly cost him £144,000.
They were later taken from him and placed in an undisclosed sanctuary. More than 20 years later, Tyson now owns a 40-acre can-nabis ranch in California and is set to host a can-nabis-friendly music festival on February 23.
Earlier this month he was also filmed smoking a foot-long joint at a mar-ijuana festival.
