According to her younger sister, Tamar Braxton, Toni Braxton recently suffered a complication from Lupus that left the singer hospitalized. The news was shared by Tamar, who was a guest on Monday’s episode of Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen. When asked whether she was still in touch with her family following the dramatic fallout from their therapy session with Iyanla Vanzant, which was documented during the season finale of Braxton Family Values, Tamar confirmed that she was indeed still in touch with family members.
“I talked to my mom last night. I talked to Towanda last night. I talked to Toni last night,” she said before revealing that Toni was recently hospitalized. “She has lupus, but she’s in the hospital and so I made sure she’s ok,” Tamar added. “So I’m going to go to Atlanta and check on her.”
When ESSENCE reached out to a rep for Toni, the rep clarified, “Toni is in LA rehearsing for her forthcoming tour. She is not in the hospital.”
Back in 2010, Toni revealed that she’d been diagnosed with the autoimmune disease. She was not in serious condition, but a rep for the singer said that the disease must be monitored at all times. On Braxton Family Values, fans saw how lupus affected Toni day-to-day as it affected her heart and made her lethargic at times. And in 2016, she even had to cancel some shows due to the illness.
Whether Toni was in the hospital or not, we’re just glad Toni is already back doing what she loves.
